Okay, so technically this is slightly more than 5 years ago, but since it's still fabulous I am including it anyway. Despite my non-fandom of her jump telegraphing, this is a wonderful program and IMO Carolina Kostner's best ever skate. I haven't enjoyed most of her programs after this, although I think her SP and LP this season are a huge improvement music-and-choreography wise. Would love to see her put two great performances together at Euros....

Must-Watch Skating Programs of the Past 5 Years, Part 3!
In the spirit of #2 on my Christmas wish list, here is Jeremy Abbott's LP from the Grand Prix final, in which he finished 2nd in the long program and 4th overall. Several people have stated that some of his PCS marks were too low and I have to say I agree. I would even argue that he should have won the freeskate outright but that's an argument for another day. Enjoy!

My Figure Skating Christmas Wish List
It's not asking too much, really. Just these small five skating things would be great:
(1) Shen and Zhao finally get their Olympic gold medal. Nothing against S/S; in fact, I think their new Out of Africa program is amazing. It's just that Shen and Zhao are so completely beloved (and rightfully so!) by the world of skating fandom that anything less than a golden ending to their comeback story will be hugely disappointing. I for one will not be doing a whole lot of breathing for the 7-plus minutes they will be competing on the ice in Vancouver.
(2) Jeremy Abbott surprises in Vancouver. I am not tempting the Skate Gods in any way by indicating exactly how this will happen. It will just be good. And that's all I'm going to say.
(3) Davis and White win a medal in Vancouver. They should have won one at Worlds last year, but that's besides the point. IMO Virtue/Moir and Davis/White are THE best in ice dance in the world at the moment. One (or heaven forbid both) of these teams not making the podium at the Olympics will be very, very disappointing. With that said, I can't wait to see what Delobel and Shoenfelder have in store for the start of their comeback season. They are always innovative and a lot of fun to watch.
(4) A clean skate and a medal at my competition this spring in the freeskate. Yes, I know, it's not about the medals, and so on and so forth. But it sure would be nice to win a medal for the first time at the new higher level I am skating at. This wish comes with the caveat that there needs to be more than 4 people in the group I am skating in so the medal actually means something.
(5) Michelle Kwan to join Stars on Ice. If they could throw in a Michelle/Alexei Yagudin duo number I promise I will never ask for anything else again. Well, until next year, anyway....

Must-Watch Skating Programs of the Past 5 Years, Part 2
After debuting this program at the 2007 Skate America competition, Daisuke Takahashi took his rightful place as one of the innovators in modern skating. I still can't believe he couldn't dance like this before he learned this program!

Must-Watch Skating Programs of the Past 5 Years, part 1
The Genius of Kristofffer Bertnsson
Landing all your jumps cleanly is highly overrated. If you can pull off skating to Axel F and AHa you should be Olympic Champion in my book.

I love reading blogs!
Since I love reading blogs on blogspot, I figured I might as well set one up for myself. It seems like a lot of the people who are writers use blogspot and I need all the help I can get to get motivated to write more often.
I also love how creative the people who post here are -- a lot of their ideas have really inspired me. For example, a lady in Oregon whose blog frequently featured pictures and items that inspired her would post pictures and scans of postcards she would send to herself on vacations she took; sort of a postcard-journal project. All you really need besides a good memory to remind yourself to do this is a binder and some sheet protectors, and you can build a really unique book of memories. I'm definitely going to be putting this idea into effect starting with our very next trip.
If you have a blog you'd like to share with me please post a comment, I love finding new projects and ideas and reading about people from all over the country and the world!
