It's not asking too much, really. Just these small five skating things would be great:
(1) Shen and Zhao finally get their Olympic gold medal. Nothing against S/S; in fact, I think their new Out of Africa program is amazing. It's just that Shen and Zhao are so completely beloved (and rightfully so!) by the world of skating fandom that anything less than a golden ending to their comeback story will be hugely disappointing. I for one will not be doing a whole lot of breathing for the 7-plus minutes they will be competing on the ice in Vancouver.
(2) Jeremy Abbott surprises in Vancouver. I am not tempting the Skate Gods in any way by indicating exactly how this will happen. It will just be good. And that's all I'm going to say.
(3) Davis and White win a medal in Vancouver. They should have won one at Worlds last year, but that's besides the point. IMO Virtue/Moir and Davis/White are THE best in ice dance in the world at the moment. One (or heaven forbid both) of these teams not making the podium at the Olympics will be very, very disappointing. With that said, I can't wait to see what Delobel and Shoenfelder have in store for the start of their comeback season. They are always innovative and a lot of fun to watch.
(4) A clean skate and a medal at my competition this spring in the freeskate. Yes, I know, it's not about the medals, and so on and so forth. But it sure would be nice to win a medal for the first time at the new higher level I am skating at. This wish comes with the caveat that there needs to be more than 4 people in the group I am skating in so the medal actually means something.
(5) Michelle Kwan to join Stars on Ice. If they could throw in a Michelle/Alexei Yagudin duo number I promise I will never ask for anything else again. Well, until next year, anyway....
